Veterinary Receptionist Required

We are looking for a dynamic, organised team player to join our reception team.

As a member of our reception team you will be the first point of contact for clients with our practice. The ideal candidate must have a desire to provide excellent customer-service, the ability to be empathetic and a willingness to offer a helping hand to clients. They must have excellent communication and multitasking skills, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Flexibility in working hours is also essential to provide holiday and absence cover for other reception team members.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • greeting and welcoming clients and their pets,
  • answering telephones in a timely manner,
  • making appointments,
  • dealing with emergencies,
  • taking payments,
  • taking requests for repeat prescriptions,
  • ensuring compliance with GDPR by keeping client record details up to date,
  • ensuring the waiting room, visitor toilet and reception areas, and working in conjunction with the VN team, that the areas around the building are clean and tidy.

Job Summary

Reception and administrative duties


Average 32.5 hours per week (occasional weeks will have longer working hours)


£8.75 per hour


Shifts Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.30am and 8.15pm which include 7.30am – 2.30pm and 12.00pm – 7 pm or 8.15pm with the ability to work flexibly to provide holiday and absence cover for other reception shifts). Some Saturday mornings (8am-1pm).






·       Proven work experience as a Receptionist or similar role


Skills and knowledge

·       Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of clients and suppliers

·       Professional attitude and appearance

·       Excellent interpersonal skills

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise

·       Accurate money-handling and cashing up skills

·       Proficiency in Microsoft office

·       Ability to take, record and pass-on messages accurately and promptly

·       Hands-on experience with office equipment and ability to work with external IT provider to resolve IT issues

Personal effectiveness

·       Ability to plan and manage an individual workload

·       Ability to work flexibly to provide holiday and absence cover for other reception shifts (includes but not exclusive to Monday to Friday 7.30am-2.30pm and 12.00pm to 8.15pm and some Saturday mornings 8am-1pm)

·       Ability to speak fluent English in order to communicate fully in the role with clients and team members



·       Desire to undertake reception training to BVRA reception certification or equivalent

·       BVRA reception certification or equivalent
